How to handle duplicate emails with nnimap?

Am I doing something wrong, or is there another mechanism for handling
duplicate messages with nnimap?

In the configuration of my nnimap server, I have the line

(nnimap-split-methods nnmail-split-fancy)

having defined nnmail-split-fancy as you have.
